XBHK1505 (Sculpture)
XGFK1505 (Printmaking)
XSKN1505 (Painting)
XTKN1505 (Drawing and New Media)

Compulsory Major 2 (32 credits): Art History and Image Studies
What to do: Register ALL TWO of the following compulsory modules:
HKGK1514 (Image Interpretation in Art History)
HKWS1624 (Studying Visual Culture and Media)
STEP 3
Compulsory Limited Option (32 credits)
Select modules carrying 32 credits in the first year from any subject from another programme that can be combined with Fine Arts.
What to do: Register ALL TWO modules of one compulsory elective in the list below (one module is for the first semester, and the second for the second semester, except where indicated otherwise).
Before you do this, first read the information below on choosing an elective:
You must choose one elective, but you may not select more than one. Choose any elective from the list below that does not clash with your timetable or your Art History Major modules (HKGK1514 or HKWS1624).
Popular choices include Psychology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies, but select based on your interests. If you plan to pursue Art Therapy, Psychology is recommended.
Please take note that you will continue with the same elective in your second year.
Also, take note that some elective modules have certain prerequisites, meaning that you will only be able to select this elective in the event that you meet certain criteria. For example, if you are interested in selecting Classical Studies (CLCC1514 and CLLC1624), you need to have at least 65% for your first language or 70% in your first additional language in Grade 12. Keep an eye out for these prerequisites when going through the list.
Please ensure that at least 16 of the 32 credits are on NQF level 6. Consult the 2026 Humanities Rulebook for more information.
Note: Business Studies is not included in the list below as it usually clashes with your Art History and Image Studies (HKGK1514 or HKWS1624) modules. Classical Languages is also not included in the list below, because in the second year of Classical Languages, the credits exceed the limit, and you need to take the same elective in the first and second years, thus it is not included as a suggested option in your first year. If you do decide to select Classical Languages, please be aware that the credit load will be heavier in your second year.
